BMW Group made 2011 their record year by selling the most vehicles ever by 3 of their premium automotive brands, BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce. Accumulative worldwide sales rose 14.2% last year to reach the total of 1,668,982. BMW independent brand sales were up 13% and the automaker sold some 1.36 million cars and still firmly holds the world’s throne as the number one premium car maker in the world since 2005 when it snatched the leading position from Mercedes Benz. Audi however overtook Daimler AG’s Mercedes Benz as the second biggest premium car maker in the world selling 1,302,650 vehicles, trailing BMW by roughly 350 thousand.
One of the things that caught my attention at the Detroit Auto Show is that BMW will finally bring something that enthusiasts have demanded for a long time for their F10 M5 – a third pedal. The 2013 F10 BMW M5 fitted with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 6-speed manual gearbox mill generating 560 horsepower! What more can you ask for? Throw a kit generating more down force and you can attend the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Too bad this will be exclusively available at the North American market, sorry Europe, I am sure there will be lots of Germans really furious! How many times thought, Europe got a nice car with a manual transmission that we missed out on? A numerous number of occasions. I wish some day I can afford the F10 M5 on stick, I am sure that car will make every minute driving and excitement to long for.
