BMW F10 M5 6-Speed Manual

January 10, 2012 Leave a comment

BMW Group made 2011 their record year by selling the most vehicles ever by 3 of their premium automotive brands, BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce. Accumulative worldwide sales rose 14.2% last year to reach the total of 1,668,982. BMW independent brand sales were up 13% and the automaker sold some 1.36 million cars and still firmly holds the world’s throne as the number one premium car maker in the world since 2005 when it snatched the leading position from Mercedes Benz. Audi however overtook Daimler AG’s Mercedes Benz as the second biggest premium car maker in the world selling 1,302,650 vehicles, trailing BMW by roughly 350 thousand.

One of the things that caught my attention at the Detroit Auto Show is that BMW will finally bring something that enthusiasts have demanded for a long time for their F10 M5 – a third pedal. The 2013 F10 BMW M5 fitted with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 6-speed manual gearbox mill generating 560 horsepower! What more can you ask for? Throw a kit generating more down force and you can attend the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Too bad this will be exclusively available at the North American market, sorry Europe, I am sure there will be lots of Germans really furious! How many times thought, Europe got a nice car with a manual transmission that we missed out on? A numerous number of occasions. I wish some day I can afford the F10 M5 on stick, I am sure that car will make every minute driving and excitement to long for.

VW boosts sales

January 5, 2012 Leave a comment

Looks like Volkswagen starts the new year on a good note towards achieving their goal of # 1 automaker in the world. The new Passat might be the answer for VW in the U.S market where it had failed for years to grasp the American consumers with their vehicles built for Europeans.

Named Motor Trend Magazine car of the year and North American finalist for the car of the year the Passat that was introduced last September is for the first time ever built in America specifically for us at the new Chattanooga, Tennessee plant. Bigger, cheaper and superior to its predecessor the Passat only sold some 6000 units last month, that is roughly half of the leaders in the segment but significantly higher than previous months sales and overall VW sales are up 40%.

Imitating its European counterparts by bringing production to U.S is a good idea overall but VW has a long way before it tops the American market where it hold 3.5% of the share.

Toyota FT-86 II Concept Teaser

September 8, 2011 Leave a comment

This is a recently released teaser of Toyota FT-86 II Concept, and it looks like this will be the final concept that will be showcased at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The FT-86 concept underwent lots of changes since it debuted at the Tokyo Auto Show some 2 years ago.

Toyota is looking to target a very competitive market of young buyers with this sports car and directly compete with the likes of Infinity G37 which it currently a highly demanded sports car for young drivers, so 2 years of refinement were unavoidable according to Toyota as they don’t want to take chances.

The final version of this FT-86 concept prominently resembles the 2000 GT, Toyota first super car that was displayed at 1965 Tokyo Auto Show and now is considered one of the best cars to come out of Japan.  The FT-86 is expected to go into production early next year!

Nissan’s Electric Sports Car

August 3, 2011 Leave a comment

Rumormill at Auto Express mentions that Nissan might be back on track with their version of a rear wheel roadster/coupe that will rival Mazda’s MX-5, in other words the resurrection of the Nissan 200SX which was planned since 2008.

Early this year at the Geneva Auto Show Nissan introduced their highly conceptual ESFLOW 2+2 electric vehicle which was planned to sit on the 370Z platformed and powered by the Juke’s 188nhp 1.6 litre turbo mill, but later in the year Nissan decided to shelve the electric concept, at least for some time as it turn out now.

According to Auto Express Nissan is back on track with theit all electric rear wheels drive sports car which most likely will receive a completely new name. The automaker is also planning to get help with the development from the masters of all electric sports cars  the British “Lotus” famous for the extremely lightweight body and chassis design which very essential in the development of an all electric sports car.

The model should be expected to arrive in 2013 and will start at approximately $32,000.
