Toyota FT-86 II Concept Teaser

September 8, 2011 Leave a comment

This is a recently released teaser of Toyota FT-86 II Concept, and it looks like this will be the final concept that will be showcased at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The FT-86 concept underwent lots of changes since it debuted at the Tokyo Auto Show some 2 years ago.

Toyota is looking to target a very competitive market of young buyers with this sports car and directly compete with the likes of Infinity G37 which it currently a highly demanded sports car for young drivers, so 2 years of refinement were unavoidable according to Toyota as they don’t want to take chances.

The final version of this FT-86 concept prominently resembles the 2000 GT, Toyota first super car that was displayed at 1965 Tokyo Auto Show and now is considered one of the best cars to come out of Japan.  The FT-86 is expected to go into production early next year!

Next Big Thing In The Premium Sector?

With the Nissan Juke out for sale already it looks like the next big thing in the premium auto market is the all wheel drive, 3 door, coupe body SUV’s. Back in 2001 BMW came out with a concept called the X-Coupe, for those years the car was very innovating and bizarre, perhaps a little ahead of it’s time so BMW decided to cancel production, or lest to put it on halt. However the competition used the BMW’s innovating thinking and put it to their own advantage and decided to take the lead into the uncharted waters.

Ranger Rover are perhaps ahead of all premium automaker with their Coupe SUV that is dubbed the Evoque. The car is already available for sale at a little over $ 40,000 mark. The Evoque is Ranger Rover’s smallest, lightest, and most fuel efficient model ever made for production. The Evoque is featured with 2 motors, the 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder direct injected gas engine producing 236 hp, which is mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission. The second motor is a turbodiesel with 2 variants one producing 187 horsepower and the second 148, the latter one paired with front wheel drive Evoque is capable of producing 58 mpg.

Next up is Porsche trying to keep up with Range Rover and introduce their Cajun. When Porsche introduced the Cayenne, there were tons of disappointed Porsche owners that an SUV in the line-up will deteriorate on the Porsche image and bla bla bla but fortunately for Porsche, Cayenne became their number one selling model and the most successful sporty SUV in the premium sector. Rumors are that Porsche is contemplating on dropping an Audi 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine producing 309 bhp and 479 lb-ft of torque into the small SUV and build it on the Q5 platform to conserve on production.

First with the concept of a 3 door sporty small size SUV, BMW only now are initiating a possible comeback for the X-Coupe that was first introduced to us some 10 years ago. It should be expected to include the features of both the X series and the Z series, perhaps a hybrid of both but inevitably will continue to bring success to the BMW brand.
